Funds Needed for Mt. Zion Gravesites
Harry Lenzer’s massive headstone lay flat on his grave, fallen and cracked in three pieces, for who knows how long — maybe years. But as of Oct. 3, Lenzer’s burial site joined the handful of others that have been fixed since June as part of the restoration project at Mount Zion Cemetery in East Los Angeles, where nearly 7,000 Jews are buried and approximately 1,000 gravesites need repair work.

Chester Williams Building: Winner of the 2013 Historic Core Downtowners of Distinction Award
Australian businessman Joseph Hellen doesn’t go into a market half-hearted — the Chester Williams Building, which began leasing in the fall, is the third Historic Core apartment complex opened in the past few years by his local company, Downtown Management. The 12-story edifice at 215 W. Fifth St. continues his work of turning faded office structures into modern, market-rate apartments (he previously transformed the nearby Spring Arcade and Jewelry Trades buildings).
MDM Builders Makes Its Mark on Downtown Development
MDM Builders is a family-owned business that offers a full range of services from pre-construction to construction completion, and serves both individuals and private corporations throughout the greater Los Angeles area.
The company has become a major player in Downtown’s development with an impressive list of projects in its portfolio, including Chapman Flats, Great Republic Lofts, Milano Lofts, the Haas Building, the Spring Arcade Building, the Silo Vodka Bar, Loft Seven and
many others.
MDM Builders, Revitalizing Downtown is a Family Affair
The economic downturn famously killed Downtown’s residential boom, taking a massive toll on the area’s construction industry. In spite of that, family-owned construction company MDM Builders opened two projects.
Silo Vodka Bar Coming To The Haas Building Next March
Josh Gray-Emmer thinks you should know a few things about vodka. So much in fact that when he opens the Silo vodka bar next March, a Periodic Table of Vodka will be on the wall, “to help the guests learn a little bit more about the products they’re drinking.”
The HAAS Building: Winner of the 2010 Jewelry District Downtowners of Distinction Award
The Jewelry District has seen relatively little growth during Downtown’s boom period, but that changed in May with developer Zuri Barnes’ $10 million, self-funded transformation of the Haas Building. The project created 68 apartments in the edifice at 219 W. Seventh St., and architect Lucas Rios Giordano focused on preserving the 1915 structure’s historic character.
Four Major Projects to Reshape Block of Broadway
It may be five years late, but a residential conversion of the Broadway-Spring Mercantile Arcade building is back underway and scheduled to be completed later this year.
The project has missed date after date, but the recent hiring of Librush Construction as project manager has the work back on track according to Greg Martin, Vice President of Fifth Street Funding, Inc. and Mideb Nominees, Inc.
The two firms, along with Begonia Development, Inc., are responsible for four projects — including Broadway’s first commercial adaptive reuse — that will bring new life to Broadway between 5th and 6th streets.
Villa Carlotta - The Virtual Tour

We have taken all of this rich history into consideration when re-creating Villa Carlotta’s former glory.
